ABOUT THIS SONG:
This song was written to ease myself through a period of my worst grief and anger about my mother when I started setting some boundaries for myself–and instead of getting respect and love, I got rejection and guilt-inducing manipulations. It was a pivotal point in my recovery when I let go of my illusions about the potential of this relationship and grieved for what would never be and comforted myself by writing this song. After writing it and singing it, I felt stronger than ever before that everything was going to be alright and that ultimately I must take care of myself and honor my feelings and stop honoring hers. This song still comforts me when I am feeling my worst and I hope it does the same for you. I hope you enjoy it.
LYRICS
This Too Shall Pass
By Elaine D. Sanders
September 26, 2007
This too shall pass
You must be strong
This feeling’s from the past
That’s the reason for this song
These words should soothe
Comfort all that’s wrong
Know that deep inside your heart
You BELONG
CHORUS
You BELONG to the Universe
And I am glad you’re you
You see the beauty all around
Then others see it too
There’s hope in every single act
And everything can change
This too shall pass
Everything can change
Be kind to yourself
When you’re feeling really bad
When you feel there are no answers
And all you feel is mad
Turn your anger into action
Love and kindness for your own soul
Soothe these feelings from the past
Like you deserved when you were small
CHORUS
You BELONG to the Universe
And I am glad you’re you
You see the beauty all around
Then others see it too
There’s hope in every single act
And everything can change
This too shall pass
Everything can change
This too shall pass
Everything can change

BRAVO. I applaud you for listening to your intuition and singing despite the negative messages you received as a child. I am SO proud of you.
